24-Hour Emergency Dentist

DaVinci Dental PA, Jupiter FL

The pain and throbbing of a dental abscess doesn’t care what time it is and a tooth can be knocked out any day hour of the day.  While some of us are capable of remaining stoic and bearing the agony and fear, many of us do not share the same threshold for pain. In some instances, it is best that we do not wait. A knocked out tooth needs immediate attention to increase the likelihood of saving that tooth.  Patients of DaVinci Dental PA can call 24 hours a day if they are experiencing a dental emergency.  Sometimes a simple answer to your question about cavities, missing fillings, infections and even gum disease can help you get through the night. We are available to our patients 24 hours for dental emergencies.

Types of Dental Emergencies

Do not be afraid to wake us up if you are worried about any of these dental emergencies.  If you are a patient, call DaVinci Dental PA immediately to set up your earliest appointment and get advice on what to do next if:

Your Tooth Got Knocked Out

DaVinci Dental PA can re-implant your tooth in many cases, but if there is a serious injury involved or the person is unconscious, call 911 Otherwise, following the next steps and getting to your Emergency Dentist at DaVinci Dental PA within 30 minutes will offer you the highest chance of success in saving your tooth:

  • Do not touch the root of the tooth. Touch only the crown of the tooth towards the top. Handle teeth carefully to prevent further damage.
  • Rinse tooth gently, if necessary (if it comes out of your mouth). No scrubbing or scrapping or using alcohol or mouthwash to remove dirt is necessary.
  • Store the tooth or tooth fragment in whole milk OR between your cheek and gum to prevent drying. Take care not to swallow the tooth.
  • For pain and swelling, take ibuprofen or acetaminophen and apply a cool compress.

Your Tooth is Broken

Your teeth can break as a result of trauma, cavities that have weakened your teeth or from one crunch of a sour dough pretzel (we have even seen toast do the trick).  This dental emergency ranks high because a broken tooth can also mean an exposed nerve, which can be incredibly painful.  Call us immediately, but first do the following:

  • Collect all the pieces of the broken tooth and store in a container of whole milk or saliva.
  • For pain relief, take ibuprofen or acetaminophen.
  • Rinse your mouth out well with warm water.
  • Reduce pain and swelling by applying a cold compress to your cheek around the area with the broken tooth.
  • Dental Cement from your local drugstore can be used to cover the broken part of the tooth if you cannot get to us right away.  This may be necessary if part of the tooth is sharp or jagged.

Your Crown Fell Out

Losing your crown may or may not hurt, but it is often frightening and embarrassing.  Be sure to locate your missing dental crown, examine it and look inside your mouth.  Your tooth may have fractured and is inside the crown.  If so, you will have to see your dentist before anything can be done.  If the crown looks hollow or there is a small metal rod coming out of it, you may be able to temporarily cement it back in yourself.  Call DaVinci Dental PA for instructions, recommended products and to make an appointment to permanently cement your dental crown.

You Cracked Your Tooth

Cracked teeth can be trickier than other dental emergencies.  You could have a minor crack on the pointy part of your tooth that does not affect the pulp, the crack could also extend into the gum line, or worse, the crack could split your tooth into two distinct pieces.  Some cracks are difficult to detect even with X-ray but still can be painful.  Typically, sensitivity to hot or cold is an indicator of a possible crack.  Whether you are suffering from a break or split or increased temperature sensitivity, be sure to call DaVinci Dental PA right away for an appointment to ensure you do not suffer further damage.

Your Tooth Hurts

Tooth pain can occur as a result of a broken or cracked tooth, a new cavity or decay under an old filling. Other factors include damage to the tooth as a result of excessive grinding or clenching or a broken filling. Typically, taking pain relievers such as ibuprofen or acetaminophen will dull the pain until you are ready to see the dentist, but call DaVinci Dental PA as soon as possible about your tooth ache if:

  •  You have a toothache that lasts longer than 1 or 2 days.
  • Your toothache is severe.
  • You have a fever, earache, or pain upon opening your mouth wide.

Proper identification and treatment of dental infections is important to prevent its spread to other parts of the face and skull and possibly even to the bloodstream.

You Have Sore, Swollen or Bleeding Gums

Swollen gums are painful and are usually a result of infection from gum disease, plaque or simply from food becoming lodged between teeth. Bleeding gums usually are a sign that you are in need of an exam and cleaning.  Rinsing with warm salt water, gently brushing & flossing and ensuring you do not have trapped food between teeth will bring some relief, but do not hesitate to call DaVinci Dental PA for your next visit.
